Words From Our Readers

Like many who read Goldrush, I am impressed. Every time I receive the magazine I sit and read, then reread again. In my 35 years of teaching I have always instilled respect for dance. I thought I would share one small aspect with you and maybe your readers.

In my studio students are not called guys or dudes. They’re always referred to as dancers, and should be proud to be called such. Once a dancer, I tell them, always a dancer. Nothing is more flattering to a young dance student then when someone asks, are you a dancer? How proud we feel. When I visited the Alvin Ailey School, the famous Milton Myers invited me to watch his class, and I listened and watched the loving way he taught. He treated every dancer with respect and referred to them strictly as dancers.  I loved it and have used it ever since.

I have loved you and your family for over thirty years and have always been proud of the fact that I was a former Sherry Gold Dancer. My very best to you and congratulations on the fabulous work you do for dance.

Congratulations on your Goldrush anniversary.  I wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your magazine. It's the best for teachers. Your ideas on students, parents, competition, convention, and more are so enlightening. You motivate me to continue doing what I've done for 25 plus years – teach the art of dance. Thank you and keep up the good work.

I want to let you know that I think the Goldrush magazine is wonderful!  I have taken so much of it to heart and really learned a lot to help myself and my business.

We are a new studio here in Connecticut, finishing up our second season, and we love Goldrush! It's refreshing to have a magazine that focuses on all the positive aspects of the art and business of dance.

One of the big issues we have with our adolescent students is getting them to realize that to be a strong dancer they need to be healthy. This includes eating habits, sleep habits, and positive self image. We have talked to our girls about our own experiences, given them articles, and run two workshops about the importance of healthy eating and exercising. We would love to see something in an upcoming Goldrush about the importance of "healthy dancing."

I just wanted to say thank you for all the information I have found both in Goldrush magazine and in Goldrush Online.  As a young teacher it’s great to read advice from people who have been there, and to see things approached in ways I never thought of.  I look forward to every new edition. Keep up the good work!

I want you to know I particularly agree with your article on competitions and parents, but from the other side of the stage. I know you already know this with your long competition history – it is a psychological and emotional unraveling like no other. I am tempted to just become a cocktail waitress and call it a day.

Rhee, you are just awesome and I wish you the best of luck with the magazine and Project Motivate. You are quite an inspiration to me and so, so many other people.
