Preschooler’s Plea
By Tracy
Stanaway, Tracy’s School of Dance, Billings, Montana

Dear Mommy and
Daddy
I want to be a
dancer, and a dancer I will be,
But Mommy, how
can I pay attention if you’re always watching me?
My teacher says
I’m awesome; I know that you agree,
But try to let
me learn now—I’m grown now, practically!
My shoes can
come untied, my tutu fall apart,
A sticker lost
upon the floor will almost break my heart.
Someone took my
spot today and class just seemed so long,
But then Teacher
played my favorite, my best recital song.
I danced and
twirled so gracefully; I boogie-woogied too,
I skipped and
jumped and did my dance—what a surprise for you!
So Daddy, let me
dance and play, let me pose and curtsy too.
But watching time
is over, cause I’ll be learning something new!
