LUIGI JAZZ DANCE WORKSHOP

The Luigi Jazz Centre, Inc., will conduct an Intensive Jazz Dance Workshop in New York City, July 11-23. The workshop is appropriate for all levels of students (age 13 and over) from beginner to professional, as well as teachers. It is designed to help dancers “learn ‘how to’ learn, perform, or teach,” states Luigi. The program explores the holistic timeless approach to training through placement and alignment, warm-ups, center work, musicality and combinations using Broadway pop, lyrical, contemporary and jazz standards. GILBERT RECEIVES NATIONAL RECOGNITION

Anne Green Gilbert, founder of Seattle’s Creative Dance Center and Kaleidoscope Dance Company, has been named the National Dance Association’s 2005 Scholar/Artist recipient. Ms Gilbert is known internationally as a leader in children’s dance education. Her newest book, Brain Compatible Dance Education explores the importance of movement for brain development and offers age-appropriate, brain-compatible lesson plans to help students develop special awareness, respect for others,, and the capability for giving meaningful feedback. HULA COMES TO DETROIT

Detroit turns Hawaiian on July 19 – 20, 2005, when the Golston Polynesian Dance Company shares hula skills with others in a 2-daylong workshop. The classes are open to beginners, intermediate and advanced hula dancers.  The workshop will also provide instruction in Tahitian, Maori New Zealand, Samoan, and Tongan dances. TAP KIDS RHYTHM INTENSIVE

New York Stage Originals presents a unique program designed to challenge and inspire talented young tap dancers age 9-19, July 25-29. Each year only 60 dancers are chosen to take part in the Tap Kids Rhythm Intensive which offers training with the Nation’s finest tap masters, including Lisa Hopkins, Barbara Duffy, Mark Goodman, Ted Levy, Max Pollak, Eddie Ornowski, Robert Levin, among others.
